Partial discharge analyzer measures partial discharge level of HV equipment base on impulse current principle as described in IEC60270 standard. The windows operate analyzer is designed to perform HV equipment partial discharge evaluation experiments. The analyzer adopts polymer dustproof protection case which is rugged and durable.


Insulation failure is one of the principal causes of forced outages for generators, motors, switchgear and dry type transformers which result in considerable damage and lost revenues.


Partial discharges (PD) are small electrical current sparks that occur in the high voltage electrical insulation in stator windings whenever there are small air gaps or voids in or on the surface of the insulation. As a stator winding deteriorates from coil winding vibration in the slot, operation at high temperatures, or contamination, the partial discharge activity increases. Thus partial discharge monitoring can be used to detect the primary causes of stator winding failure and generally give two or more years of warning of a machine failure.


Partial discharge monitoring can be performed as an off-line quality control test during machine outages or more commonly through online monitoring during normal operating conditions. HANDY INSTRUMENTS provides the partial discharge sensors (epoxy mica capacitor or stator slot coupler), monitoring instrument and diagnostic software to monitor partial discharges and understand the true condition of the insulation.


1. Sophisticated monitoring and analysis system prevents false indications by digitally separating partial discharges from electrical noise, on a pulse-by-pulse basis.

2. Proven filtering algorithms enhances noise separation to allowing for a reliable and objective detection of stator winding problems such as poor impregnation, overheated windings, coil movement in the slot, ineffective or deteriorating grading / semi-conductive material problems, and contamination.

3. In response to a partial discharge alert, users can review the pulse height analysis plots, and the 32-window phase resolved partial discharge plots using basic interpretation to confirm the cause of the alert

4. PD View software performs automatic assessment and displays alerts to when high partial discharge conditions are detected.
